The Europa Conference League 2022/23
So it looks like we are going to be in this comp next season, entering at the final play-off stage, I believe. So, are you IN, or OUT?

BENEFITS:

Another season in Europe, giving us some continuity and continued progress as a club, albeit, it is a second rate competition.

A chance of some silverware, although again it cannot be classed as a major trophy.

Winning the thing gives you entry into the Europa League group stages the following season.

More away days for our fans.

NEGATIVES:

It won't help attract any good players.

Thu - Sun football, and more complaints about player fatigue, especially if going deep into the tournament and playing our first team, much like this season.

The group stages will be full of pub sides, so will be able to play youth and back up players, again much like this season.

If we get into the latter stages and we start playing our first eleven, it could affect league form.

A lot of Sunday games - which is shit.

So, in or out?

And you, FC.

If it's Viborg: The town is close to Billund AND Aarhus airports. I'd suggest you stay in Aarhus, only an hour by bus or train.

Gil Vicente would be ideal for the away leg on the 25th as I'll be living near Coimbra by then.
Only a 15000 capacity.
Tickets will be a premium.
Gil Vicente are based in Barcelos near Braga.
They finished 5th in the Portuguese league.
Perhaps they have a quality left back

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
You'd have thought they'd have given the seeded teams the 2nd leg at home, seeing as UEFA normally love to protect the bigger teams.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
From the Offical Site:

So, who could we be drawn against in the play-off round?

The ‘grouped’ teams were revealed on Monday, and seeded West Ham now know we will face the unseeded winners of one of these five third qualifying round ties.

Paide Linnameeskond (EST) v Anderlecht (BEL)
Wolfsberger AC (AUT) v Gżira United (MLT)
Riga (LVA) v Gil Vicente (POR)
AIK (SWE) v KF Shkëndija (MKD)
Viborg (DEN) v B36 Tórshavn (FRO)

The third qualifying round will be played over the next two weeks, with second-leg ties involving West Ham’s potential opponents being completed on Tuesday 9 August and Thursday 11 August.

When the play-off round draw is made on Tuesday 2 August, as a seeded club we will be randomly assigned a number between 1-5 and a ball containing our number placed in a bowl alongside the other four. The same will be done with the five unseeded clubs, numbered 6-10.

A ball will be taken from each both and placed in an empty bowl and shuffled. The first ball drawn out will designate the home team for the first leg on Thursday 18 August.

Re: The Europa Conference League 2022/23
Apologies for bumping this post once more. I tried starting a more updated one a few weeks ago but it was deleted by the mods.

Anyway, the Third Qualifying Round has now taken shape and here are some picks from that round:

Champion’s Path:

Viking Reykjavik v Lech Poznan.

Main Path:

Viking Stavanger v *Sligo Rovers (*shock victors over Motherwell.)
Hadjuk Split v Vitoria de Guimaraes.
Brondby v Basel.
Lillestrom v Antwerp.
Dundee Utd v AZ67 Alkmaar.
Maccabi Tel Aviv v Aris (Greece.)
Levski Sofia v Hamrun Spartans.
Slavia Prague v Panathinaikos.

There are, of course, other matches featuring more obscure teams, but this round also features Anderlecht, Young Boys, Rapid Vienna and a few other larger teams.

Next Tuesday, the 2nd August, we will know whom our potential opponents are in the play off round, which is due to take place on the 18th and 25th August.
